## External Relations & Engagement with Alumni (ER/EwA)

External Relations and Engagement with Alumni (ER/EwA) is the function that positions AIESEC in Denmark within the broader ecosystem of universities, institutions, government bodies, and alumni networks. As an ER/EwA team member, you build and maintain the strategic relationships that give AIESEC credibility, access, and long-term support. While Business Development focuses on revenue-generating partnerships, ER/EwA focuses on institutional relationships that open doors — memoranda of understanding with universities, collaborations with municipal youth departments, and a thriving alumni community that gives back through mentorship, funding, and advocacy.

### Key Responsibilities

* **Institutional Partnerships** — Identify, approach, and maintain relationships with universities, student unions, municipal bodies, and other institutions relevant to AIESEC's mission. Negotiate access to campus facilities, event spaces, career fairs, and communication channels.
* **University Relations** — Serve as the primary liaison between your LC and the universities in your city. Ensure AIESEC has a visible and positive presence on campus through co-branded events, guest lectures, and student organization collaboration.
* **Alumni Engagement** — Build and maintain a network of AIESEC alumni in Denmark. Organize alumni events, create communication channels (newsletters, LinkedIn groups), and invite alumni to contribute as mentors, speakers, or donors.
* **Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Management** — Draft, negotiate, and renew MoUs with key institutional partners. Track expiry dates, deliverables, and renewal conditions to ensure no partnership lapses unintentionally.
* **Event & Representation Coordination** — Represent AIESEC at external events, panels, career fairs, and networking sessions. Coordinate AIESEC's participation in external opportunities that raise the organization's profile.
* **Referral Generation** — Leverage alumni and institutional contacts to generate referrals for exchange participants, partners, and new members. Track referral sources and acknowledge contributors.

### Measures of Success

| Metric | Description | Typical Target |
| ------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------- |
| Active MoUs | Number of current, signed memoranda of understanding with institutions | Track and grow annually |
| Event Attendance | Number of attendees at ER/EwA-organized or co-organized events | Set per event |
| Referrals Generated | Number of EP sign-ups, partner leads, or member applications sourced from alumni or institutional contacts | Track quarterly |
| Alumni Network Size | Number of active alumni engaged through events, newsletters, or mentorship programmes | Grow term-over-term |
| Institutional Touchpoints | Number of universities or institutions with an active AIESEC relationship | At least one per LC |

{% hint style="info" %}
ER/EwA success often shows results over longer timescales than other functions. Building trust with institutions and alumni takes time — focus on relationship quality over quantity.

### How to Get Started

1. **Map your institutional landscape** — Make a list of every university, student union, and relevant institution in your city. Note which ones AIESEC already has a relationship with (ask your LCVP or LC President) and which are untouched. This map becomes your action plan.
2. **Connect with your LC's alumni** — Ask your LC President or the MC for a list of known alumni in your area. Reach out to two or three with a simple introduction message: who you are, what AIESEC is doing now, and an open invitation to reconnect. Alumni are often more eager to help than you expect.
3. **Review existing MoUs** — If your LC has any active memoranda of understanding, read them carefully. Understand what AIESEC committed to deliver and what the institution provides in return. Check if any are due for renewal soon.
4. **Attend one external event** — Find an upcoming career fair, student organization networking event, or university open day and attend on behalf of AIESEC. Even if you just observe and introduce yourself to a few people, it builds your confidence for future representation.
