# AIESEC International

AIESEC International (AI) is the global governing and support body of AIESEC. It sets the strategic direction for the entire network, maintains the global brand, develops shared tools and platforms, and ensures consistency across 127 countries and territories.

## Global structure: AI → MC → LC

AIESEC operates on a three-tier structure. Each tier is entirely youth-run — no tier has permanent professional staff in the traditional sense. Leadership rotates annually.

### AIESEC International (AI)

AI is the top of the organizational pyramid. It is based in **Montreal, Canada** and consists of a small team of recent AIESEC alumni (typically 15–25 people) serving one-year terms. AI's responsibilities include:

* Setting global strategy and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the network
* Managing the Expa platform (AIESEC's global exchange and CRM system)
* Publishing the Global Compendium (the organization's constitution)
* Organizing International Congress (IC) and International Presidents Meeting (IPM)
* Supporting Member Committees through regional coaching and resource development
* Managing partnerships with international organizations, including the United Nations

AI does not manage day-to-day LC operations. Its role is to set standards, provide tools, and ensure alignment across the global network.

### Member Committee (MC)

Each country (or territory) has one Member Committee, sometimes called the "national board" or "national team." The MC is responsible for:

* Translating global strategy into a national plan
* Supporting and coaching Local Committees across the country
* Managing national partnerships and external relations
* Running national conferences (e.g., National Conference, Leadership Development Seminar)
* Ensuring compliance with the Global and National Compendium
* Reporting to AI on national performance

The MC is typically led by a **Member Committee President (MCP)** and includes several **Member Committee Vice-Presidents (MCVPs)**, each responsible for a functional area (e.g., outgoing exchange, incoming exchange, talent management, marketing, finance).

### Local Committee (LC)

LCs are the front-line units of AIESEC. Each LC operates at a university or city and is responsible for:

* Recruiting and developing members
* Running exchange operations (sending and receiving exchange participants)
* Managing local partnerships and fundraising
* Delivering the AIESEC Experience to every member

An LC is led by a **Local Committee President (LCP)** and typically has a team of **Vice-Presidents (VPs)** and **Team Leaders (TLs)** managing specific functions.

## The Global Committee

The Global Committee is a governance body that sits alongside AI. It is composed of the AI President and elected representatives from across the network. The Global Committee approves major policy changes, oversees AI accountability, and makes decisions that affect the entire network at International Congress.

## International Congress (IC)

International Congress is the highest decision-making body of AIESEC. It takes place once a year (typically in July or August) and brings together delegates from every member country. At IC:

* The global strategy for the coming year is presented and voted on
* Amendments to the Global Compendium are debated and ratified
* The new AI team is elected
* Awards for top-performing entities are given

{% hint style="info" %}
IC is both a governance event and a learning experience. Most countries send their incoming MC team as delegates to prepare them for their term.

## International Presidents Meeting (IPM)

IPM is a mid-year gathering (typically January or February) of all MCPs and senior AI leaders. It focuses on:

* Reviewing mid-term progress against global goals
* Sharing best practices across countries
* Aligning on second-half priorities
* Capacity building for MCPs

## Regional structure

Between AI and individual MCs, AIESEC organizes countries into **regions** (e.g., Western Europe, Middle East and North Africa, Asia Pacific). Regional teams within AI provide coaching, facilitate peer learning, and track performance. Denmark sits within the **Western Europe** region.

## How AI connects to your experience

As a member or leader in AIESEC in Denmark, you interact with AI primarily through:

* **Expa:** The global platform where all exchanges are tracked. AI builds and maintains it.
* **Global policies:** The Global Compendium sets rules that every LC must follow (e.g., exchange standards, ethics policies).
* **Conferences:** If you attend IC or IPM, you engage with AI directly.
* **National Education Cycle (NEC):** The education content your MC delivers each term is based on frameworks developed by AI.
