# LeaderLab Series

LeaderLab is a four-volume micro-learning series designed for Team Leaders (TLs) and aspiring leaders in AIESEC in Denmark. Each volume focuses on a practical skill area that complements your day-to-day leadership role. The series is self-paced, modular, and built to fit into a busy AIESEC schedule — each volume can be completed in 2–3 hours of total learning time.

## Volume 1: Team Management

This volume covers the fundamentals of leading a small team — the exact situation you face as a TL in AIESEC.

### Topics Covered

* **Delegation that works:** How to assign tasks based on skill, motivation, and development goals — not just availability
* **Motivation beyond pizza:** Understanding intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation. What actually drives your team members? (Hint: it is usually autonomy, mastery, and purpose.)
* **Managing different personalities:** An introduction to working styles and how to adapt your leadership approach for different team members
* **Running your first team meeting:** Practical checklist for planning, facilitating, and following up on meetings (see also the [Team Leader Guide](/leadership-track/team-leader-guide.md))
* **When things go wrong:** How to have difficult conversations, address missed deadlines, and reset expectations without damaging the relationship

### Key Frameworks

* **The Delegation Matrix:** Plot tasks on a 2x2 grid (urgency vs development value) to decide what to delegate, what to do yourself, and what to use as a growth opportunity
* **GROW Model for coaching conversations:** Goal, Reality, Options, Will — a simple structure for helping team members solve their own problems

### Reflection Exercise

At the end of Volume 1, you will complete a "Team Snapshot" — a one-page analysis of your team's strengths, gaps, and your leadership priorities for the term.

## Volume 2: Personal Branding

Your AIESEC experience is a career accelerator — but only if you can communicate what you have learned and done. This volume helps you build a personal brand that opens doors.

### Topics Covered

* **What is personal branding?** It is not about self-promotion. It is about being intentional with how you show up — online and offline.
* **Crafting your story:** The "Challenge, Action, Result" framework for turning AIESEC experiences into compelling narratives
* **LinkedIn optimisation:** Profile photo, headline, summary, experience section — a step-by-step guide to making your LinkedIn work for you
* **Public speaking basics:** How to present confidently at LC meetings, conferences, and external events
* **Networking with purpose:** How to build meaningful professional connections, not just collect contacts

### Key Frameworks

* **The Personal Brand Canvas:** A one-page tool where you define your values, strengths, audience, and key message
* **CAR Method (Challenge, Action, Result):** The standard format for translating AIESEC experience into professional language

### Reflection Exercise

Update your LinkedIn profile using the guide in this volume. Share it with a peer for feedback.

## Volume 3: Well-Being

AIESEC is a voluntary organisation, and burnout is a real risk — especially for TLs and VPs who carry both operational and people responsibilities. This volume gives you practical tools to protect your energy and support your team's well-being.

### Topics Covered

* **Recognising burnout early:** The difference between being busy and being burned out. Warning signs in yourself and others.
* **Setting boundaries:** How to say "no" (or "not now") without guilt. Why boundaries make you a better leader, not a worse one.
* **Energy management:** You cannot manage time — you can only manage energy. How to structure your week around your natural energy rhythms.
* **Supporting struggling team members:** What to do when someone on your team is overwhelmed, disengaged, or going through a difficult time.
* **Self-care is not selfish:** Practical habits — sleep, movement, social connection, digital detox — that keep you effective.

### Key Frameworks

* **The Energy Audit:** Track your energy levels across a typical week. Identify what drains you and what fills you up. Restructure accordingly.
* **Traffic Light Check-in:** A team exercise where everyone shares green (I am fine), yellow (I am struggling but managing), or red (I need help). Normalises honesty.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If a team member discloses a mental health concern, your role is to listen, not to counsel. Direct them to professional support resources. In Denmark, contact your university's counselling service or the national crisis line (Livslinien: 70 201 201). If safety is at risk, escalate to your LCP immediately.
{% endhint %}

### Reflection Exercise

Complete the Energy Audit for one full week. Identify your top two energy drains and create a plan to reduce them.

## Volume 4: Dream Job

Whether members continue in AIESEC leadership, join the alumni network, or move into their career, this volume helps them leave with clarity and confidence.

### Topics Covered

* **Career self-assessment:** What do you want? What are you good at? What does the market need? Finding the intersection.
* **Translating AIESEC to your CV:** How to describe your TL, VP, or project experience in language that employers understand
* **CV and cover letter workshop:** Structure, formatting, and common mistakes. Includes a template.
* **Interview preparation:** Behavioural interview questions, the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result), and how to practice effectively
* **The first 90 days:** How to succeed in your first job — lessons from AIESEC that transfer directly

### Key Frameworks

* **The Ikigai Diagram:** Intersection of what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for
* **STAR Method:** The go-to framework for answering interview questions with specific, structured examples from your AIESEC experience

### Reflection Exercise

Write three STAR-format stories from your AIESEC experience. Practice telling them aloud in under 2 minutes each.

## How to Use LeaderLab

1. **Self-paced:** Work through the materials on your own schedule. Each volume has 3–4 sections, each taking 30–45 minutes.
2. **With your team:** Run a LeaderLab session at a team meeting — pick one topic, share the key concepts, and do the reflection exercise together.
3. **At conferences:** LeaderLab workshops can be facilitated in 60–90 minute sessions. Facilitation guides are included in the Drive folder.
4. **As part of NEC:** National Education Cycle (NEC) facilitators can incorporate LeaderLab modules into LC education days.
